On Sunday, Catalans gave to the World, to the whole Humanity, a new lesson of our greatness, and of our desire to contribute modestly to improve collective justice, liberty and ultimately, democracy.
What a great example of a people, a nation, a country! I am so proud to be part of it!
Do not doubt that now nations will look at us differently. We can travel around with our heads held high. We are a small country (país petit) no more.
It took a time to me in writing this post. I spent election day and night in the front line. Once I exhibited my Junts pel Sí identification, I was the target of not few eyes of hatred, of those Spaniards that came, in higher than ever number, to prevent our victory. And despite this, we beat them gently. Courageously, in an undeniably way. And what is more important in a plainly exquisite democratic way. But we defeated them.
Catalan people is no longer "small" or is no more afraid. Now we only need to be one thing: be smart. We must read correctly the results. And specially we have to realize that we won, beating our trisecular enemy.
There is an issue that must be overcome. Many Catalans have been socialized into a "culture of defeat". This is not unique to us. Many other peoples suffer this trauma, as they are "peoples without history". Peoples who did not succeed in building its own state at the time and this generated a self-hatred situation that push them to accept its subordinate condition that make them slaves of their rulers. Catalans have escaped from this scenario. Precisely one of the main consequences of these elections is the crushing of the culture of the acceptance of Catalonia´s subordinate condition, of the Spanish Catalonia project created since 1939 (Francoist occupation) and spread out by those entities that promoted Catalonia' submission in order to become a relax and leisure resort for Spain. That´s over for good. No doubt about that.
But a remnant of this culture of defeat is that there are still people who are not aware that they have won. Psychologically some do not understand that their enemy lies dead at their feet, and that fight is over...after spending a lifetime fighting him. Victory, to some extent, deprive their meaning of live: fight the evil, kill the wolf. To finish the Spaniard dossier.
Now we must act relentlessly, and without mercy. We have defeated them, yes, but still they move, fiercely. Hate provoke spasmodic movements. But we must show no compassion. Not even a drop.
They have done much damage. They prevented thousands of Catalans from abroad from voting. They threated us with "corralitos" (stop banks run), with prays in churches, and military measures, they used Catalanophobia tactics more than ever. They don´t deserve our recognition. Only our absolute contempt.
Now we have a solid pro-independence parliamentary majority. Its firmness is based on what many of us have been advocating for years. Now it is called mainstreaming, but years ago we called it Patriotic Front, and even more years ago, it was called National Front of Catalonia. Managing this overhelming majority must be done, I repeat, with intelligence and extreme coldness. The victory is complete and absolute, and now the process has no turning back. It remains only to tag and ribbon.
