"CATALAN NEWS" LAUNCHES A DAILY' NEWS SHOW IN ENGLISH

ACN launches a new daily TV news program on August 29 starting at 8:30pm. The daily (Monday to Friday) will cover the most important news in Catalonia from an international perspective. Seven years after launching its English service, ACN goes one step further in its aim to explain Catalonia to the world. The short daily TV news program will expand ACN's reach abroad, and be available online on the 'Catalan News' website and through social media.
The new TV show will adapt the most important news of the day in Catalonia to an international audience: it will not only translate them, but add context and additional information, in order to give a broader understanding of the key events taking place in the country. The program will also include English-language interviews and commentary with guests from across the political spectrum in order to guarantee plurality.
As a public service provider, ACN aims to fulfill an information gap in English about Catalonia while better positioning current news from Catalonia in international media. The new TV show will also promote the ample audiovisual library of the ACN news agency, produced daily by a network of journalists from all around Catalonia.
Over the summer, ACN has strengthened the 'Catalan News' team and has launched a new website with more information in English, with in-depth articles, videos and a social media oriented strategy. All the new contents in English are also published on the ACN Twitter account (@agenciaacn), the Catalan News profile (@catalannews), Instragam (agenciaacn) and Facebook (Catalan News).
"As a public news provider we wanted to remedy what we think is a deficit in English-language information about Catalonia," said ACN director Marc Colomer. The project, he added, aims at facilitating access to information about Catalonia to foreign media and citizens from around the world.
"We want to offer in-depth, locally-produced content about Catalonia to foreign correspondents and foreign media, international organizations, and citizens interested in having information about the Catalan situation from a broad perspective and without any filters," said Colomer. "A country with a capital such as Barcelona, open to the world and with an expanding international economy needs an English-language news provider oriented to foreign audiences," he added.
The new English-language program offered by 'Catalan News' aims to promote the services and contents created by the ACN news agency in a moment in which Catalonia is increasingly attracting the interest of the world's media.
